Sign of Spring - EDM Challenge #59 and for IF on March 31
I painted a redbud stem twice. The first one I did is the one of the right. It is pen and watercolor. The second I did in watercolor only. Can't decide which I like the best..
Sioux, I prefer the watercolor only style because I think it makes plants look more natural. But that's just my personal bias. I draw and paint them both ways, but I'm leaning toward pure watercolor. Good job on both, though.
Sioux, I like both of them, but the straight watercolor is very nicely done. The ink and watercolor looks alittle more like a sketch but is still very beautiful. Jean
I really, really like the straight watercolor. It seems softer, somehow, maybe more natural. It also might depend upon the context; the one with pen may simply appear starker because it's on a white page.
I did a similar experiment, though I made the mistake of outlining my simple watercolor, so I don't have both--but I did remember scan without ink first: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/mahlu002/oneday/2005/08/illustration_friday_reflection.html At some point, I may go back to "repaint" the picture and not outline it again...
HI SIOUX!!! I'm going to have to disagree with the group-- I LOVE The pen and ink and watercolor -- I love the way the pen crisps up the images!! SUPER job on both of them!
hidee Ho, Sue! It is moi...Pam Aries! I Like the pen and ink also! I always end up drawing around my water colours anyway! I can't stop myself! Well...I now have a blog here cause I had to have an account to post a comment! tee hee ! I don't know a thing about it. Love Ya Pam Aries
I have finally been able to make a comment! blogger hasnt liked me much lately. Love your pen and ink one, but that is more my style too. Wanted to comment on your crane fly, really liked that one Penny in South Australia
Nice drawings, it's interesting to read all the comments. I have to say the ink and watercolour, but again everyone has their own taste. It's always nice to have a peek into people's process!

Sioux, I love the watercolor one! It looks so real, but the other is nice too.

Sioux, I loke both of them. I tend to go more toward the ink and watercolor, but that is just my preference. I like the delineation.

Great idea. I think I like the watercolor only the best, but they're both beautiful. Good job.

I like them both, but think I lean toward the watercolor only one -- it just feels a little softer. Both are good, though! :-)
Lovely drawings, Sioux, and I like the way that you have journalled in and around the images.

These are lovely! I'm really enjoying seeing all the redbuds blooming around town. You captured their beauty and gracefullness nicely. :)

Lovely illo! :-)
You know I couldn't decide which I liked better, either. I think they both are brilliant.
These are fabulous, both of them. The bloom of the pic. on the left are strong and beautiful, I like them both!
It is very dificult to deside which is better. Love the words you have put in. Very nice drawings!!!
