Early Summer Garden CONTEST

With so many of you posting such lovely photos of your gardens and flowers in your area, I thought you might enjoy a little contest. The contest is simple. Just add a comment to this post between now and June 12, and on June 13 I will draw a winner. And the winner will receive my 2002 reprint of the 1952 book, Old Herbaceous. So add your name to THIS POST if you would like a chance to own this lovely little book. This contest is INTERNATIONAL! Here's a little about the book:

Old Herbaceous is a classic British novel of the garden, with a title character as outsized and unforgettable as P. G. Wodehouse’s immortal butler, Jeeves. Born at the dusk of the Victorian era, Bert Pinnegar, an awkward orphan child with one leg a tad longer than the other, rises from inauspicious schoolboy days spent picking wildflowers and dodging angry farmers to become the legendary head gardener “Old Herbaceous,” the most esteemed flower-show judge in the county and a famed horticultural wizard capable of producing dazzling April strawberries from the greenhouse and the exact morning glories his Lady spies on the French Riviera, “so blue, so blue it positively hurts.” Sprinkled with nuggets of gardening wisdom, Old Herbaceous is a witty comic portrait of the most archetypal—and crotchety—head gardener ever to plant a row of bulbs at a British country house.

Sign up now to win! The drawing will be June 13, and your name must be on this post's comments.

What a lovely prize! Are you sure you want to part with it?

I got a copy of it, out of the library and am enjoying it. I'm sure I'd love to have a copy of it, myself. It is a precious book.

Hello!
I am new to your blog and enjoying it immensely. I love reading English country stories. Please enter me in your drawing.
Linda
On the summer or Litha Scavenger hunt I decided to do a minor change on # 7 it now reads “A frame picture taken from you’re home areas looking toward the south.” But it I’m changing it to “ A frame picture taken close from your home area looking toward the south” so nice picture of southerly direction from your area.

The book looks interesting! I need to post a few more pictures of our hard yard very soon. We just did our landscaping for the first time last year and it's been fun to see what survived the winter!
