Marriage Meme

I've see this on several blogs. Very interesting, so I thought I'd do it, too.

Marriage meme

1. Where/How did you meet?

I was working in the Upper Room as a tour guide, in Nashville. Raf was a city tour guide and brought in a group. We eyed each other, and I think the first thing we said to each other is, "I'm divorced and I never want to marry again." So a year later we were.

2. How long have you known each other?

31 years

3. How long after you met did you start dating?

Within the week

4. How long did you date before you were engaged?

We never were engaged. We just decided to get married one day and did about a week later. I never had an engagement ring until a year ago last Christmas.

5. How long was your engagement?

Less than a week

6. How long have you been married?

It will be 30 years on May 5, 2007.

7. What is your anniversary?

May 5--it was his mother's birthday, the next day is our second grandson's birthday and our oldest daughter's anniversary

8. How many people came to your wedding reception?

Reception...did you say, reception? We had anyone who wanted to meet us at TGI Fridays after the service. Quite a few did, and each bought a bottle of champaign.

9. What kind of cake did you serve?

No cake...each person ordered from the menu and paid for their supper! Remember this was the hippie period...but we didn't get married in the woods.

10. Where was your wedding?

The Upper Room Chapel's little chapel/side chapel..very, very tiny chapel

11. What did you serve for your meal?

As stated above, each person ate whatever they wanted...and drank, as well.

12. How many people were in your wedding party?

Yvonne Glien was my maid-of-honor and Eric Thoreson and Owen Davis stood up for Raf...stood being a relative term. They both got drunk before the service, as neither of them was particularly pro-marriage. Raf gave them each a bottle of Scotch after the ceremony, and neither made it to Fridays'! Yvonne did, and the three of us sat at a table in front of the door welcoming everyone.

13. Are you still friends with them all?

We found Yvonne a couple of years ago, but she hasn't kept contact. We have talked to Owen and Eric about once each. I wish we were in contact with all three of them!!

14.Did your spouse cry during the ceremony?

No, I think we were both shell shocked, though.

15. Most special moment of your wedding day?

Raf wasn't into flowers, etc., so my boss Helen picked roses from her garden and made a bouquet, she and Janice, a co-worker, and several other friends, stood in the door during the ceremony...did I say it was a tiny room. My other boss, Rev. James Alexander, married us.

16.Any funny moments?

As I said, Owen and Eric got drunk before the wedding, well, with all that champaign, Raf got drunk at Fridays'. He kept taking the keys out of his suit coat pocket and laying them on the table. Yvonne would pick them up and put them back in the pocket...this happened many, many times that evening.

17. Any big disasters?

Nope...it was a wonderful day.

18. Where did you go on your honeymoon?

The day after the wedding we went to Daddy's Creek in the Katoosa Wildlife Management area in East Tennessee with two other men and two little boys, and the men white water canoed...I didn't. Oh, and it rained heavily, and our tent floated away down the river. Also, one of the men, Mike Foster, kept trying to help me with my fire by kicking it, and I about had a piece of him! I CAN make a good fire, thank you!

19. How long were you gone?

Just over the weekend...we had to work.

20. If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change?

Not a thing.

21. What side of the bed do you sleep on?

The right side is mine...and the right chair in the blue room and the passenger side (right) in the car. I am right!!

22. What size is your bed? King...we little people need lots of room!

23. Greatest strength as a couple?

Our faith in God and our strong will to work through whatever needs working through.

24. Greatest challenge as a couple?

As a young couple it was children and money...now it's health.

25. Who literally pays the bills?

I did for years, but now with online paying, Raf does.

26. What is your song?

A Little Bit More by Dr. Hook...and being in Nashville and part of the music scene, we got to see these guys around town and hear them. Fun times!!

27. What did you dance your first dance to?

We don't dance much, and neither of us remembers.

28. Describe your wedding dress:

Yvonne insisted that we both get new clothes. Raf got a light tan suit, and I got a cream Sunday dress with some dark brown trim.

29. What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding?

As I said above, we wouldn't have had flowers except Helen picked some from her garden...roses.

30. Are your wedding bands engraved?

No

31. How old were you when you got married?

Remember this was a second marriage for both of us.
We were both 34.

Fun! Anyone else want to play? If so, you're IT!

1. Where and how did you meet?
I was just at home in my Ottawa apartment that I shared with my sister, Betty and my brother, Gary just minding my own business when Gary brought his friend, Bernie over because Bernie had just bought a new 45 record and his player was broken..I happened to answer the door and good thing too as it turned out because Bernie later told me that if he had of seen Betty first, he would have fallen for HER because she was prettier!! The nerve!!

The very day!Seeing as Bernie was on midnight shift, he phoned me later and we talked all night. Some first date, eh?

4.How long did yuo date befroe you were engaged?
Well Betty and I and Gary were moving from Ottawa to St. Catherines, so before we left after knowing Bernie for about two months, I made sure I popped the question before we cleared out! HE said "Yes"!!
Please don't think ill of me dear Sioux. It HAD to be done because Ottawa is a government city and there are ten girls to every guy!!
I could not take any chances of losing the guy to a city slicker.

5.How long was your engagement?
About a year.

Later on at the reception Mr. Grampa Yade told everyone that Bernie had just tied a knot with his tongue that he couldn't undo with his TEETH...NOT nice!!

15.Most special moment of your wedding day?
My most special moment of my wedding day was when we went back to sign the papers, that I took my engagemnet ring off of my finger and gave it to my brother, Gary whom Bernie and I dearly loved! The guy had given us the wrong room number!!

Niagara Falls..Romantic, eh? Well it was only 11 miles from Welland. Norm and Sue drove us there and we had to take a cab home three days later!
