Cookies for the Bishop
Annie asked me for the recipe for the Spritzer cookies. I just made a mound of them for the Bishop's visit tomorrow. The recipe follows the photos.
Spritz Cookies (Oldie)
1 lb. butter
2 cups sugar (it said a pound...and that's a pound)
4 cups flour
1 tbs. almond or vanilla flavoring (I like almond better)
1 egg
food coloring as desired
Mix ingredients. Put through the cookie press. Bake at 375˚F for 7 - 10 minutes (7 is closer as the cookies flatten out and are thin).
Spritz cookies are originally from Sweden, and the O and S designs are traditionally Swedish.

I may sneak a peak when she is out. It may be an almost antique like yours.
She and Karen used to make cookies with it. I am sure she has the box.
How many dozen did your recipe make?
This is the way I make sugar cookies except they get a tsp of baking soda. Are you sure you didn't leave that out?
I cut your recipe in half and get five dozen.
..
Instead of using a cookie press make little balls and squash them with a fork or something else for a design or pattern.
..
My mother will always use a cookie press for her Christmas cookies.
When I was a child she would bake 12 different cookies, pluss a huge chocolate cake and flat bannock.
They would last till lent. Then the birds were treated with the rests.
Hope your bishop appreciates homemade cookies. They are rare nowadays.
