Show and Tell Friday, John, and Angels

For Kelli's Show and Tell Friday I scanned a greeting card my mother received from my grandmother, probably in the late 1940's. Mother's name was Rose, so this was appropriate, but Grandmother signed her card "Mrs. Ficke". She never was Mum or Mother Ficke, although that was probably as much Mother's fault and Grandmother. I don't think they ever liked each other. Daddy was the only son. He had seven sisters (I even have a quilt with seven pointed stars that my grandmother called the "Seven Sisters"

We followed John's flight across the Pacific. Interesting that we found a page that's very like those little screens on the airplane that show you where you are. He should be in Shanghai now...should have arrived there about 5 this afternoon China time. There's an 11-hour difference in time. He probably hasn't even gotten into his dorm yet. Can't wait to hear from him! Anyway, thought I'd post a two-year-old photo of him with his godfather, Remo, at church on Christmas Eve.

BTW, the contractor showed up and should call us today about an estimate. I'm ready!!

Auntie "E" sent this, and I thought it was read cute:

Angels Explained by Children

I only know the names of two angels, Hark and Harold.
-Gregory, 5
Everybody's got it all wrong. Angels don't wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists are working on it .
-Olive, 9
It's not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to Heaven, and then there's still the flight training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes.
-Matthew, 9
Angels work for God and watch over kids when God has to go do something else.
-Mitchell, 7
My guardian angel helps me with math, but he's not much good for science.
-Henry, 8
Angels don't eat, but they drink milk from Holy Cows!!!
-Jack, 6
Angels talk all the way while they're flying you up to heaven. The main subject is where you went wrong before you got dead.
-Daniel, 9
When an angel gets mad, he takes a deep breath and counts to ten. And when he lets out his breath, somewhere there's a tornado.
-Reagan, 10
Angels have a lot to do and they keep very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow. Then when it gets cold, angels go south for the winter.
-Sara, 6
Angels live in cloud houses made by God and his son, who's a very good carpenter.
-Jared, 8
All angels are girls because they gotta wear dresses and boys didn't go for it.
-Antonio, 9
My angel is my grandma who died last year. She got a big head start on helping me while she was still down here on earth.
- Lynn , 9
Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets. And if they don't make the animals get better, they help the child get over it.
-Vicki, 8
What I don't get about angels is why, when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them.
-Sarah, 7

The vintage card is lovely. I have quite a few vintage postcards, but not so many greeting cards. I do have a couple that Grandma sent me when I was a girl.

Loved the kids outlook on angels. Kids have their own perception of things. LOL

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Old Red Barn post on Treasures to Me.

Blessings for a great Mother's Day.

The vintage card is lovely and what a keepsake to have. I have many vintage cards but unfortunately they are not from my family(antique stores) I love to read what people wrote back then. I also love the children's take on angels.

I now understand your comment on my last week's Show and Tell.

Isn't it great how we can now track a plane's progress??

I read a series of mysteries by Earlene Fowler - the book titles are always quilt titles - one of them is Seven Sisters.

Dear Sioux ~~ I hope you have heard from your grandson by now. He will be safe - it's amazing how young people travel these days. I s he studying the language or the culture? The old card is lovely so thanks for sharing it with us. Glad you enjoyed the 10 Commandments and the jokes. Take care
my friend. Love, Merle.
By this time John should be safely settled in.
